A proven process to durable, sustainable, and beautiful projects
Black Creek Construction delivers quality construction work with timeless results. Our legacy has been built through strong skills in communication, in-depth knowledge of the building process, and the ability to problem-solve.
Our areas of expertise are in the construction of bridge structures, bulkheads, pile driving, helical installation, and docks. We have built-in exclusive communities throughout the Southeast.
Our approach is to be environmentally conscious, always mindful of how nature plays a part in the building process.
Bridge Structures
Timber Bridge Construction
Black Creek Construction has over two decades of timber bridge construction excellence with top golf course architects and developers.
Wood bridge construction has proven its value and durability. In most cases, timber bridges are the best option to cross environmentally protected areas and this is what we excel at. We specialize in the design and installation of these bridges and can help with any hand-rail design you are needing.
Some of our most common load ratings are listed below:
- Pedestrian application (2 ton load rating)
- Golf Cart application (5 ton load rating)
- Light vehicular application (10 ton load rating)
- Heavy vehicular application (HS 20-44 load rating)
We can accommodate many different needs and constraints and will work with you to design and install the best option.
Combining today’s technologies and advanced construction techniques, we can deliver strong, low maintenance, and environmentally friendly wood bridge construction.
Bulkheads
Black Creek Construction bulkheads are built to stand the test of time and are secured with high-quality materials, tie-back rods, and treated lumber.
Property owners typically seek to develop bulkheads to slow extensive erosion caused by water and the weather. Wooden bulkhead construction is economical and can protect property from erosion. Services include the design and installation of:
- Vinyl, Wood, Steel and Concrete Bulkhead
- Retaining Walls
- Dock and Piers
- Pilings
- Boat Ramps
What’s the difference between Retaining Walls and Bulkheads?
Retaining Walls
The function of a retaining wall is to prevent the land from sliding or moving. It retains soil on both sides of the wall and is the most basic of marine construction structures.
Bulkheads
A bulkhead has the same functionality. The clear difference is that bulkheads retain the earth (soil) on one side of the wall and water on the other.
Helical Pilings
Helical Piles Do the Heavy Lifting
Basic piles are typically found in deep foundations, which transfer a load of a structure deep into the earth rather than sitting on the surface. A pile generally is a large column, rod, or pillar driven deep into the ground to help anchor the structure in place. There are many different kinds of piles, including the helical pile.
What are Helical Piles Made Of?
Helical piles are generally round hollow shafts or square solid shafts. They project from steel and come in a wide assortment of gauges and widths.
One or more steel screw threads are welded onto the shaft (i.e., helical bearing plate). The design allows small or large excavators to apply ample downforce to the soil as the piling is being screwed into the earth.
Docks
These platforms can vary from being pile-driven to floating with any accessory you can imagine being added to make this as comfortable to your wants as possible.
Docks will come in many different sizes based upon what the DNR will allow for saltwater areas and for freshwater areas it would be more of what your HOA allows (if applicable).
In most instances a boardwalk will be needed, to span wetlands, grasses, marshes, etc., to connect the highland to the main dock that allows access to the deepest water possible.
As Development Project Manager for the historic, 1,500 acre High Hampton Project in Cashiers, North Carolina, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Erik, Hal, and crew at Black Creek Construction. The project consisted of a new-build pedestrian bridge over a 36-acre lake, three (3) golf course bridges, renovation of a +60 year old boat house with nine (9) boat slips, two (2) docks, three (3) floating docks, one (1) floating “golf green”, and construction of the only privately owned cart bridge over a state road in North Carolina.
From the beginning of the five (5) year project, Black Creek took a proactive approach with clear communication, accurate budgets, and on-time schedules. Many of the projects were dependant on draining the primary lake for dam repairs. They were able to adapt their schedule to US Army Corps timeline and restrictions without impacting any ongoing construction. They are dependable, punctual and produce extremely high-quality product. Each project was appropriately staffed with a professional and friendly crew, kept a clean jobsite throughout the entire project, and worked well with other contractors.
The construction/engineering experience, knowledge, and high-quality product Black Creek Construction brought to each project is why I highly recommend Black Creek Construction for all development needs, whether aquatic or land based.
Bridges, bulkheads, and docks that are environmentally sensitive, durable, and where quality is never compromised
Our Process
Project Planning
In order for us to quote your project, we will need to set up a phone meeting or an on site meeting where we can get a good idea of what the project will entail.
We will discuss design constraints such as; length, curvature, elevation, elevation change, materials, and accessibility to the jobsite location. This allows us to understand what issues there are and what you, the customer, are wanting when we have completed the scope of work.
Once we understand the scope of work, we will begin pricing out material and put together a cost estimate on the project at hand.
Once agreed upon, we will begin our designing process and line up a date to start construction.
Construction
The day we show up will be a travel and setup day.
Our foreman will coordinate the dropoff of our equipment, the lay down area and unloading of lumber, and make sure all prior agreed work leading up to us arriving has been done.
We will keep documentation of the work performed everyday and will make sure to keep the worksite clean and orderly at the end of every day.
Project Completion
A final walk through will be performed on the last day we are there. The person in charge will sign off, stating the work done is satisfactory and to the agreed proposal.
All of our work is warrantied to make the customer know that we stand behind our product!
